Winter 2021: The Golan Heights in Northern Israel lay covered with snow. Eastward past the border, lay Syria, Iraq, Iran and the Far East. That same winter, China and Iran made a pact for mutual assistance. In my mind's eye I imagined this alliance as a storm; in the storm clouds appeared Chinese Dragons. The mountains and clouds in the distance were created using encaustic (wax) paint. The layers fused and flowed together, uniting earth and sky. For detailed objects in the foreground, I poured the molten encaustic into stencils, sculpting the surfaces into textures and enhancing them with alcohol ink, adding metallic accents of pan pastels. I expect viewers to interpret this landscape according to their individual and cultural mindsets. They may see the dragons as threatening, or as good omens? Is the eagle a symbol of freedom or a symbol of cruel domination? Is the snow a pristine mantle or is it an icy cover, hiding an unseen reality?

Art is a passion, which I steadfastly develop in my own way, getting inspiration from fragments of poetry, photographs or stories, rather than from drawings or paintings of other artists. Dr. Dalia Hakker-Orion, curator of my solo exhibition in Tel Aviv wrote: “She doesn’t paint according to instructions or styles, but evolves at her own pace, creating original paintings manifesting passages connecting different realities.” My story stretches from my childhood home in Southern California to the Sea of Galilee in Israel. My dual citizenship has strongly influenced my perspectives. From multiple traditions, art emerges as the visual expression of movement and multi-layered ideas. I am currently working with encaustic paint that I make in my studio. My work incorporates a variety of materials: oil, acrylic, pastel, pencil sketches, and found objects.
