About The Artwork

A Third One Art Deco Nude – 11 -08-22 is my third graphite pencil drawing done with my Faber-Castell Pitt Graphite Matt pencils. A couple of days after the second but I had a busy schedule of meetings, uploading and painting of course. I had a kind of a whim to draw one per day. Considering my oils production, teaching, writing art statements I don’t think I can follow that pace though. On the other hand, it doesn’t matter. Creativity flows heavily at this moment and I am bursting with ideas. Since I can capture them quickly with these materials (Ingres, Graphite Matt) I do not need worry. Dogma’s I love dogma’s and mindsets I can cling on to, I must confess. Of course they are boundaries put on myself, by myself. Perhaps they are remnants of my legal profession. Anyway, I had it in my mind to do a series of drawings withing an hour. There you have it, a dogma and perhaps even Lars von Trier wouldn’t feel ashamed. A second dogma is to paint one oil withing a week and so far I live up to it reasonably. These dogma’s keep me edgy. As if I need boundaries, just as Sheila E needs the rock steady beat to deviate from it. What I really mean to say is that without a firm intention my art is going nowhere. I wouldn’t even know what to do if I would experience utter freedom to do whatever I wanted to do. Probably nothing.

1969, born in Nijmegen. My work can be seen in many countries all over the world. Corné employs a variety of styles that all have one thing in common: the ever search for the light on phenomena and all the shadows and light planes they block in. His favorites in doing so are oil paint, dry pastel and graphite pencil. He states that it’s not the form or the theme that counts but the way planes of certain tonal quality vary and block in the lights. Colours are relatively unimportant and can take on whatever scheme. It’s the tonal quality that is ever present in his work, creating the illusion of depth and mass on a flat 2d-plane. Corné combines figurative work with the search for abstraction because neither in extremo can provide the desired art statement the public expects from an artist. Besides all that, exaggeration and deviation is the standard and results in a typical use of a strong colour scheme and a hugh tonal bandwith, in order to create art that, when the canvas or paper would be torn into pieces, in essence still would be recognizable.
