About The Artwork

Introducing "Turquoise Abyss" - a captivating paper sculpture by Olga Skorokhod that invites you to immerse yourself in the enchanting depths of the ocean. Measuring a delicate 6x6 inches, this small yet mesmerizing artwork captures the essence of natural formations and textures found beneath the surface of the sea. Drawing inspiration from the profound mysteries of the ocean, Olga skillfully explores various compositions, playing with shapes, depth, and seamless transitions from light to shadow. Through meticulous layering and the innovative use of double-sided sticky foam, she masterfully crafts a sense of depth within the artwork, lending it an intriguing illusion of three-dimensionality. One cannot help but be drawn into the swirling currents of "Turquoise Abyss," where shades of turquoise dance and mingle. Olga employs a unique technique by incorporating a turquoise gel film between the layers of paper, allowing colors to blend harmoniously and enrich the sculpture with a vivid palette. As a result, the artwork pulsates with life, resembling an ethereal underwater world that beckons exploration. By delicately manipulating paper into intricate forms, Olga Skorokhod showcases her exceptional talent in the realm of paper sculpture. "Turquoise Abyss" is a testament to her craftsmanship, evoking a sense of awe and wonder as it transports viewers to an imaginary realm beneath the waves. Lose yourself in the captivating allure of this artwork, and let your imagination take flight in the depths of the turquoise abyss.

Olga passionate about art ever since she was a kid. She feels like she was born to be an artist. The choice of profession was obvious to her. Olga formerly worked as an illustrator, graphic designer and she painted photorealistic portraits on commission  before turning to full-time paper artist.  Skorokhod experimented with different techniques and materials while she was in Ukraine in hopes of finding her own art style in which she could constantly develop and be recognized worldwide. But it wasn’t until she completely stepped out of her comfort zone and moved to the U.S. that she eventually found it. Art is necessary for Olga. It’s like breathing. You can’t live without oxygen, so Olga can’t live without art. She craved to create. Since Olga had a small budget and couldn’t afford paint and canvas, she started working with the most affordable printer paper. It turns out paper was exactly what Olga has been looking for because she always liked monochromatic high textured artworks, and cutting by hand was a form of healing meditation for her. "If you are a professional artist and you have a sense of destiny to create, then you can make a piece of art from anything. It doesn't matter what materials and tools to use." That is how Olga Skorokhod’s paper art journey began. Olga’s sculptures are created by inspiration of nature's fascinating beauty. She likes natural formation and their textures. Olga intends for each viewer to feel an emotional response to her works by sharing through her universe of artistic expression. Olga’s work showcases strong rhythms between space and shape and favors complementary color palettes. Her artworks have the illusion of 3D because of the paper sculpture techniques she uses.
