About The Artwork

Type: triptych (3 panels) Size: 100x210x15cm (100x70/panel) Medium: mixed media Year: 2018 Frame: unframed Shipping: ships in a crate Signature: signed on the back For this work I used a tromp l'oeil technique, combining space, with black and white colors to convey a simple message: nothing is what it seems. Starting from the title, you guessed it, it’s about Alice descending (falling) into the vortex of life. It’s about childhood passing by in a heartbeat, then finding yourself being tossed around, hitting walls, falling into holes, never being sure of whether you want to be more of an adult or on the contrary, a child again, thinking is it me, or the world that’s screwed up so badly? The composition is packed with clues to the invisible chains that bind us and keep us in check, from sexuality and body image to status, wealth or social pressure. So how do we escape the dreaded rabbit hole? Or maybe the hole is the escape. Find the answer by following the lines, crevasses, explore the shapes, descend into the depths and decipher the metaphysics behind this object.

I like to question everything. What is reality? What is the truth? What lies beneath the surface of things? People connect to images and symbols through repetition. We recognize something because we've seen it before. Art makes it possible to break this pattern, to create images (in this case) that reflect another order of things, being governed by another set of rules. Isn't that great? Doesn't seeing something new and unexplained excite you? Or maybe it scares you. Maybe you start questioning things, like I do. And that’s when the magic happens. Like listening to your favorite music for the first time, and thinking, well... it’s OK, and than, after listening to it multiple times you were forever hooked by the magic. I Hope this happens to you here. Always expect the unexpected. Darius
