About The Artwork

Working in ceramics, making objects, wheelthrowing, handbuilding, takes a lifetime of practice. I enjoy making objects with the intention of finding connections between them and assembling them into a piece that is infused with some meaning. I work in a town at the far edge of the land that is surrounded by acres of oysters and clams. When this stone, which rattles, found its way into this large wide oval bowl after firing, the fit was good. A wide slab base that is smoked with sawdust look like sand found its purpose as a pedestal for this abstraction of an oyster shell and pearl.
