About The Artwork

Copper Leaves abstractly create female figurative form. The leaves are hand cut & forged, and stylized to create the illusion of movement through the female form. All copper wall hanger attached so that the nail is completely hidden, and the form seems to morph off the wall. Feminist sculpture discusses the current classification struggle of women, and collected connectedness of females, like the root system of the Redwood Forest. We are all connected, and each of our voices are significant. ”Because I am a woman, I must make unusual efforts to succeed. If I fail, no one will say, “She doesn’t have what it takes.” They will say, “Women don’t have what it takes””-Clare Boothe Luce

"My purpose in life is to help others see, feel, & heal through art". Welded Sculpture is Woodford’s passion. Her work is a dialog with organic flow, movement and scale. Woodford grew up on the East Coast in Southern Maryland, but has called the Midwest home for many years. She travels between South Carolina, Iowa, Nebraska, Dallas, and Arizona where she creates, has representation, or teaches. Traveling enables me to teach, be of service to others and broaden my views." The figurative series she creates depicts her thinking on current as well as historical matters and her perceptions from a female viewpoint. The work is inherently autobiographical while also leaving space for the viewer's interpretative dialog. Woodford's goal is to create healing sculptures that embody a sense of hope. "We are all connected. We are all the same, and could see each other as mirrors but for the smoke in-between.”
