About The Artwork

“Double Helix” was exhibited at The Serpentine Gallery and won the Xerxes Sculpture Prize in May 2015. The sculpture was created using building materials which were provided by Xerxes who founded the Sculpture Prize to celebrate the launch of their new company Omnis (Latin for complete); one company that can provide a complete exterior solution for the construction industry. All of the 9 shortlisted artists were given the same materials and asked to create a sculpture that encompasses completeness, beauty, flexibility, quality and something which is 'architecturally' inspired. The inspiration for “Double Helix” arises from the idea that the materials provided are the building blocks or DNA of construction. The linking of the two strands in “Double Helix” echoes the creation of the new company Omnis.
