About The Artwork
Female figure balancing on one leg, with outstreatched arms. The wood is Iroko, and is offcuts from work on an old wooden boat. Iroko is a wood I would not normally use, as its source is often difficult to verify, and the dust while working burns the eyes and nose. As it was completed on Corfu, I placed this figure in veiw of the road to the beach. Very often people would stop and try to copy the pose.

Paul Wood is an English Sculptor now back on the Greek island of Corfu after several years working as Stonemason in Germany. He makes hand carved sculptures in wood and stone, prefering to work with locally found materials. Often these materials are from recycled sources. His work is mainly figurative, and explores the sensual nature of both the material and the human body.
