About The Artwork

The work is part of Johannes' Lichtbruch series, yet a unique specimen. In this series, Johannes puts different materials and structures in a new context. On display is a bast-like fabric, covered with aluminum. Each individual panel is stretched like its own canvas and is then woven and beaten, in the spirit of the traditional bast technique. The result is an airy, yet self-contained work that refracts light, integrates perfectly with the space and its viewer, and illuminates any room. Unlike John's actual wood painting, this work radiates an enormous depth through its slits. The work is set off from the wall by the respective shadows between the panels and becomes a sculpture on the wall.

It was the unconventional way how Johannes came to arts. Due to the years of ice hockey, Johannes was always part of a group movement. It was a break free of never really having a place or a mindset besides group thinking. Art gives him a place. A place to have freedom. A place to develop. A place to grow. The aspiration of pushing boundaries got bigger and bigger when he moved to Halle. As he started painting at the age of 18, he found his passion for the first time. He developed the mindset of self-expression which is growing day by day. End of 2018, Johannes created next big milestones towards his unique way of painting. He started painting on 12 mm MDF wood panels. Every shape of his artworks is 100% unique. Together with his eye & passion for photography, Johannes developed a combination of abstract creation, deconstruction and realistic painting which result in his paintings on acrylic wood panels. Papers are living, Papers are telling us stories. Not even the written or the printed. Just the shape. A Dog-ear on the kids exam, a crack in a teenage memory, or the dozen removals a picture went through. It tells us little stories, we could be happy, or sad about. In combination with the faces, a perfect harmony to emphasize the Power of Individuality in every painting, shape, and crack. Faces and Stories - during time, you get to know hundreds of people. Everybody is totally different. The appearance, the sexual tendencies, the point of view, his work, the place you meet - everything. But one this is the same. Everybody is on his own journey of self realization. For me, its an opportunity, to be able to meet these people. ENJOY!
