About The Artwork

Intaglio on linoleum using caustic soda etch. and chine colle. I love the tone that linoleum has, when approached as an intaglio substrate. SUBJECT: The emphasis here, is concerning the philosophy that you should listen to your own voice and follow your heart - not what others say. Note: paper size is: 7.8 X 11.4 inches 20 x 29 cm.

I was born in Saint Marys Hospital, Paddington, London and was raised and schooled in Southern Ireland. On graduating the Ursuline High School. Cork Ireland - I moved to Brussels Belgium where I lived and worked for a few years and travelled to other countries in Europe. During the time I lived in London I decided that I would go to University and study Art. I undertook a course called a "Combined Studies" degree. I studied Education, Maths history, Art History and finally settled into studio based creative art. It became clear to me, that creating my own artwork was what was most important to me. That fine art studio practice was, in the main, focussed on painting. My work was figurative with undertones of myth, religion and literature. I somewhat surprised myself by moving to Scotland in 2007. I have always loved looking at and making art and undertook formal studies at various institutions including, University of Middlesex, Goldsmiths College, University of London, Winchester School of Art, Barcelona Spain and Wimbledon College of Art, University of the Arts, London UK My 2nd Masters degree was in Printmaking at Wimbledon school of Art, University of the Arts, London - I finished there in 2000. From that point onwards my focus has been on making art, using printmaking techniques. As I studied digital printmaking at the same time as my M.A. printmaking degree - some of my artworks combine pigment inkjet with intaglio(mainly) techniques. Outcomes include drawings, installations, art-objects and original prints. The majority of these are intaglio, using wood, linoleum or metals (copper, aluminum, zinc or steel). A lot of the works I make are one off, unique pieces. Having said that I have participated in numerous, mainly international portfolio print exchanges. I love to experiment with materials and processes and it is amazing to think that even after all this time there are still processes and techniques that I have yet to explore. The works essentially are a distillation of human experience. I am one of the featured artists in a recently published book about contemporary printmaking. The book is called "Printmaking at the Edge” by Richard Noyce, Bloomsbury Publishers London.
