For most people, being strong and positive is easier said than done. The protector is a visual representation of that voice inside. Some call it a sixth sense, others the voice of God. Whatever the case may be, it is present and should not be ignored. The work is centred around an intense yet calm gaze, looking into the viewer’s soul. The floating portrait gives the impression of an apparition, akin to that of a spirit. Hints of gold pigment throughout further emphasise this element. Overall, the work should make the viewer feel safe by allowing the audience to escape the world’s noise and rediscover their purpose.

Chris Slabber is a mixed media conceptual artist. Formerly trained in Graphic Design and Illustration, Slabber gradually transitioned from commercial artist to fine artist using his knowledge of craft and composition gained through 15 years of working as a professional creative in advertising and design. His works are known for their heavily textured characteristics, layered with symbolism. "Its been an amazing transition using my knowledge of photoshop and interpreting it in an analog way. There is no undo shortcut in fine arts, only perseverance". During his commercial career Chris has achieved international success by winning multiple international awards including Art Director's Club, Cannes Lion, A' Design Awards, Loeries and Pendoring. "Because of my advertising background I tend to chase concepts therefore searching for the best execution needed to compliment each concept".
