Description: I used my own family photograph, chosen for its pathos and screenprinted with layers of colour to signify the Manchester Slum clearances of the 1960s a planning disaster that separated my community. The artwork was created with number of other screenprints based on Geevor Tin mines in Cornwall and used as a metaphor for destroyed communities as part of my final degree show, this one was chosen for exhibiting in Brick Lane, London and the Regents Park gallery. The image is contemporary and leaves the viewer to their own interpretation. To create it was difficult to handle on a large screen whilst ensuring the offset image landed where I wanted whilst fighting with the stiff paper which wanted to roll back up again instead of remaining flat. It is one of four I made of this image. All are slightly different in placement of abstract shapes and colour tone, the image remains the same and printed slightly offset deliberately. One has sold in the UK and another to a customer in Norway. This is the only one now for sale. I chose the colours as a nod to my families Celtic background when they emigrated from Ireland to Manchester in the 1800`s. Due to the size of the print I am unable to reproduce this again as I have no access to the equipment since leaving college, although I have experimental prints at A4 size made before printing the large ones and other images. Please ask for photograph if interested in purchasing any of these. The large screenprint is supplied in a tube for ease of delivery and to save transport costs and for your own personal choice of presentation. The dimensions shown are the actual viewing area of the print plus extra for the border of the paper size which allows for a mount overlay.

Born Manchester. I studied Fine Art painting & printmaking part time over 5 years as a mature student, whilst juggling a demanding job, and in 2007 obtained a Degree BA Hons Fine Art Painting/printmaking from Brighton University.I take much of my inspiration from disused buildings and industrial sites, and nature. I love life drawing and anything that inspires me. My degree works of screen prints & etchings are based on Geevor Tin mines in Cornwall and used as a metaphor for destroyed communities. More recent works result from taking my drawings or my photographs as a starting point, the resulting paintings are not a literal description, more about my initial experience. It is about capturing something of the memory, a certain feeling associated with subject or the atmosphere of buildings and places. I use watercolour, and acrylics with mixed media. I would also love to do more printmaking when I can afford the equipment and a space of my own. In 2022 one of my still life watercolour paintings of Nasturtiums and Cherries was selected as a floral tribute to appear in the book ' Christian Spurling Picture Me' A Marine Artist, edited by Steven D. Smale.
