About The Artwork

“Lovers Roam” aka “Loves Roam in the Streets of Cambridge” by Cain 40 x 30 inches (102 x 76 cm). About the Work Lovers Roam reflects on the English poet, Lord Byron, and his chivalrous if not somewhat promiscuous nature, while at Trinity College, Cambridge University. The works are printed onto century-old book pages from Lord Byron poem, Don Juan, providing an apt interplay between the subjects and books narrative. About the Screen Print, Screen printed onto book pages which are over 75 years of age and works are mounted, using cotton duck canvas on kiln dried quality wood stretchers. The stretchers use aluminium dowels to ensure the painting is rigid, allowing the works to be hung without the need for framing (if desired). Works are 24mm deep. Limited edition of 25 screen prints. About Cain’s Work Cain creates beautiful and intriguing art imagery by painting carefully composed figures on vintage book pages. Any space between the figures exposes a background, which gives them context and narrative. The subjects are always turned away from the observer, seemingly engaged in the narrative, which remains magically elusive. As time continues to pass, the contemporary presence of the reader will age along with the older book pages. Interestingly, this ageing will be observed by future viewers of the painting. Cain creates beautiful and intriguing art imagery by painting carefully composed figures on vintage book pages. Any space between the figures exposes a background, which gives them context and narrative. Books only come alive when they are read. The passing of time and trends will shape a reader’s interpretation of a book. These are often reflected as annotations that a reader leaves behind. Instead of an annotation Cain interprets and paints a contemporary presence of the reader. Cain's art attempts to show compositions that radiate a sense of interaction between the narrative and the reader's image. The subjects are turned away from the observer, seemingly engaged in the narrative, which remains magically elusive. As time continues to pass, the contemporary presence of the reader will age along with the book. Interestingly, this ageing will be observed by future viewers of the painting. These works are hand painted in Indian ink onto pages from vintage editions of classic stories. The pages and subjects are carefully selected to bring relevance to Cain's work. The paintings are mounted on robust wooden stretchers and canvas ready to hang on delivery. Cain
