In 2018 I was hospitalized with a suspected retinal detachment. At that time I realized that, at least to me, eyesight is the most important human sense. So, I tried to make myself more familiar with the handycap and the limitations of visual impaired people. Consequently I came in touch with Braille (and the less well known Fakoo) and realizied that this alphabet shares aesthetics with modern arts (e.g. by Damien Hirst) which are not directly obvious to non handicapped people. The idea to visualize classical texts in Braille was borne. The picture above recites a famous quote from Goethe's Faust in gloomy colors: "Ich bin der Geist, der stets verneint! Und das mit Recht; denn alles, was entsteht, ist wert, dass es zugrunde geht; Drum besser wär's, dass nichts entstünde. So ist denn alles, was ihr Sünde, Zerstörung, kurz, das Böse nennt, Mein eigentliches Element". Using these words Mephisto, the destroyer, introduces himself to Faust. The citation from Goethe's Faust was realized in Braille and every single letter was colored. For the color selection, a film scene from "Mephisto" with Klaus Maria Brandauer was analyzed and the five most important, central colors were isolated. The black background intensifies the mysticism and gloom of the scenery, which is already expressed through the predominantly muted colors in red and brown tones. The artwork is available as fine art print (paper format 70 x 50 cm, print format 60 x 40 cm) on Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308g/m2 in a Limited Edition of 25 pieces (Hahnenmühle Certificate of Authenticity) and will be signed by the artist.

"Be a versatile workhorse, not a one-trick pony!" Living and working in Langen (Hessen), close to Frankfurt/M. (Germany), I was born and spent my childhood and youth in Bamberg (Bavaria). If you are aware of this medieval town you will definitely agree that this 'Franconian Rome' and World Heritage is certainly one of the most beautiful cities in Germany.
