Female Nude Print - Limited Edition of 1

This 10x8 inch image is printed on a 17x14 inch sheet of paper, so the overall size is actually 17x14 inches. Female Nude is an intaglio etching with mono print inking, after the work of Anders Zorn. It is printed with sanguine colored ink, but black ink is available upon request. The beautiful Italian word "Intaglio" refers simply to the print making technique of incising an image into a surface, then filling the incised line with ink. For Female Nude I etched lines on a metal plate, then engraved them with acid; but being a painter, I didn’t simply fill the incised lines with ink, I also carefully hand-wiped each plate, selectively leaving ink on the surface of the plate to form shadows as desired. (Creating a little painting on the plate.) While clean-wiped etchings can be reproduced identically in large numbers, mono prints are one-of-a-kind (unique). I chose this technique because it gives the print an old world, romantic softness, which I love. This 10x8 inch image is printed in the center of a 17x14 inch sheet of Fabriano antique handmade paper, creating a large white boarder surrounding the image. "Valentine" can be framed to show the boarder around the image with the paper's beautifully deckled edges; or the boarder (around the image) can be cut down in size; or placed under a mat.
