About The Artwork
I took the image of the tree perched on an outcrop at the local quarry. I was fortunate in that the light hit the trunk and centre of the tree; this I felt gave it an ethereal or noble quality. Not long after this I read The Golden Spruce and thought of how we attach meaning to trees and nature, even in these modern times. I too have favourite trees when visiting nature parks and coastal paths with my camera. I do love the original image of this print but wanted to emphasise the quality of it having something 'other' and therefore harked back to elemental forces and religious overtones without trying to make this too obvious.

I am a painter, photographer and graphic artist living and working on the North East Coast of England. My passions and the things that inspire my work; are my local coastline as we have wonderful beaches and cliffs; which host much wildlife from dolphins to cormorants and gulls. Like many, I am concerned about Climate Change and the natural world and this feeds some of the topics of my work. In regards style, I love high colour and pattern and enjoy solving the problem of marrying all my stylistic loves in single images. I have found that as I am developing as an artist both my painting and photography are becoming more similar in approach.
