About The Artwork

Photograph. When I took the photograph of this house I soon knew that I had seized on both it's simple beauty and it's haunting existentialism. If at my choice for what ever reason I may select to began a script and use it as a element in a theater of my imagination. I do not have to ponder the existential possibilities here because I have lived them myself. I just fill the house with characters and drama of my own and make a quite play which I can expand upon if I want. For example this house is right in center of a small town that was once a fort or station that early settlers used to ward off countless attacks by thousands of American Native peoples who themselves did not want their land stolen by the invading English. A brutal conflict went on in this county and this was a war zone. Settler families down to the smallest child were slaughtered and scalped and Indians villages with whole families including thousands and thousands of children were wiped out by gleeful Englishmen with gunpowder. It is also standing right in the middle of a huge buffalo trace that existed for 20,000 years or more. Buffalo, Mammoth with swinging tusks, Mastodon, wooly rino and others would make their yearly trek over the ground under this house up to edge of the 2 mile high ice sheets that reached into Ohio. The little downtown had a lot energy at one time and was vital but now it's just adjunct to the beltway strip malls that can be seen high above by orbiting spacecrafts with other types of cameras.
