About The Artwork
This light painting work in part of a new series 'In the ash of this world' What are we, the dust and ash of our world. Are we just particles floating in space. Are we the aftermath of thoughts, memories collected transformed and compounded into the stars of our universe. Are we part of soil of this planet, or rather we are the dust and ash that is left behind. Through the exploration of photography and painting I want to create new artworks on the idea of what it means to exist and how we exist within this world, galaxy and universe *there is a hole in the work. I intentionally burned the canvas to create a hole so the viewer can look through the work. I have also attached film that goes a little beyond the work itself. The film is also burned. Finally, I created an acrylic gold skin that is part of this mix media work. The blackish greyish spackle is mixed with ash to create the darker look and bring together the idea of ash to this piece.

Niko Mitsuko originally from Long Beach, California but as a child she moved to Las Vegas. She first learned how to print in a darkroom in high school and became fascinated with the magic of photography. Later, she went on the study at UNLV, where she received a BFA in Fine Art with and emphasis on Photography and a BA in Film. She moved to Portland, Oregon, to launch her artist career, and has exhibited her work across the United States, earning multiple recognitions for her photography. Along the way, she has refined her style and expanded her repertoire to include painting and mixed media works. She currently resides in Leeds, UK and Berlin, DE, and has had her works featured in exhibitions across Europe, notably in Paris, London, Nottingham, Rome and Berlin.
