About The Artwork

Isolation No. 6 / 50 × 70 cm / 2020 / limited edition 1 of 12 Each edition is numbered and signed by the artist. This is an original fine art print on Aluminium Dibond, using Canson Arches Aquarelle Rag 310 gsm paper. ARCHES Aquarelle Rag is made from 100% cotton, enhancing the paper's inherent beauty and texture. The pure white base of the paper is free from any optical brightening agents. My original photo series “Wall People” featured people in motion on different levels. However, during the pandemic, I was inspired to isolate these people from each other and create a new series, appropriately called “Isolation”. This series is not just about spatial separation, but also about the feeling of loneliness and isolation that many of us have experienced during this time. By isolating the people in my pictures from each other, I create a visual metaphor for the challenges that we have had to face together as a society. Despite the serious background, my new photo series is aesthetic and appealing. The minimalist compositions and subtle color palette allow room for interpretation and invite the viewer to get lost in the images. The “Wall People” series, which features large format minimalist photography, began in 2009 and is still being modified and developed. The series captures the movement sequences of passers-by on various levels, offering the viewer a unique opportunity to comprehend the dynamics of movement in a single image. At first glance, the works may appear to be snapshots, but upon closer examination, one can discern order in the midst of chaos. My works have been featured in many collections and exhibited in numerous shows worldwide. In fact, the “Wall People” series was chosen as the main image campaign for the 2014 “Musica Festival Strasbourg.”

Born in Tbilisi, Georgia. After completing a monumental painting course at the Academy of Arts in Tbilisi, she moved to Berlin in 1995 where she has lived and worked ever since. Eka Sharashidzes photographs primarily thematicise the difference in the architecture of European cities. Architectural details are extracted from their context and combined in photo collages to produce ornamental constructs. They contain the details which the artist considers to be typical for the architecture of each location. By isolating and repeating only a few specific features, her works show in particular the fractured nature of our recollections. The farther an event lies back in the past, the less we are able to place into context the images which remain in our memories. What remains is a diffuse mixture of visual impressions representing the subjective quintessence of what has been experienced.
