About The Artwork

Worked as a professional photographer. First camera I bought was an ancient used Pentax. Cost no more than $100. I made tens of thousands of dollars (equivalent) from that humble camera. One day agency sends a commission. Arrived at customer's. Knew him many years ago. He had a university degree (equivalent) in Photography. He couldn't believe that I, who had no background at all, had a job he craved. How did I get it? he asked. The lesson for me was a repeat of what and who I knew of British systems. Lesser beings such as myself, through class or whichsoever other criteria/identity, are kept down. Denied opportunity. Long since happened to me. Now to him. Powers that be call it irony. Their smokescreen. Camera body: Olympus OM-2SP. The original and first camera to provide off-the-film light metering. Lens: Vivitar, of Hollywood USA, 70-200 Macro Zoom, Series 1. Variant 1 of the 5 variants. Serial number informs: Manufactured by Tokyo Kino Precision. Known as the classic of classic lenses. Special in spades. Film cut from a 100 foot reel of then, 39 year old 125 ASA black and white motion-picture film stock. Loaded cassette. Exposed film was washed in anti-freeze (as used in car engines). Then developed in Agfa Rodinal. First marketed 1886. Bottle of original, no longer made by Agfa. Mixed with Potassium Bromide and Quinone for tone. Quinone found naturally in madder, from which Alizarin pigment made. All chemicals at least 40 years old. Stopped in food grade citric acid, lemonade. Soft fix in Sodium Thiosulphate. Final hard fix in Sodium Carbonate. My own recipes, temperatures and timings. Using "found objects"/household as much as possible. Old-school. Developed for 1886 high contrast, low grain and tone. Temperate old-fashioned tinge. Artistically; a simple line, the skyline. If you need detail, it's there to see. Atmosphere to facilitate imagination.

Lowborn, not a Virtue-Signaller, lacking Luxury Beliefs or their status, but neither an inverted snob, nor a snob. Definitely not intersected. Orphaned, outcast, male, straight, white, capitalist (a tiny fish in a very big pond), quite conservative in fiscal and social matters. In long term and friendly relationship. Prankster, yet pragmatic, singular, evolved, authentic, ironic, sardonic, sceptical. Comparatively deprived early life. Which has had permanent effect. Not least in being grateful, for what I've got. And for true opportunities both recognisable and takeable. These themes within some of these works. Never faked a sarcasm too. Personally loyal to those who have tried to, or have, helped. What else is a man of honour to do? Really enjoy painting, sometimes. In silence, without media lies etc., noticed sound of own breathing as I paint. Expressive, rather than regular! Still learning after all these years. Thank you for your interest.
