About The Artwork

Brighton's Golden Spiral is an arrangement of 12 columns made up from the remains of the West Pier that tragically burned down in a fire over 30 years ago. The arrangement of the columns on The Piazza is inspired by the ‘Golden Spiral’ (otherwise known as the Fibonacci spiral after the Italian mathematician). The spiral is found in nature and used to achieve balance and harmony in architecture, art and design. The geometric and mathematical origins of the spiral reflect the masterful engineering of the West Pier, now re-imagined through the design of the ‘vertical pier’ of The British Airways i360. The spiral also reflects the simple curve of waves on the beach where the columns used to sit.

Nicole Carman Artist Photographer, NicoleCarman.com Nicole is a Brighton based fine art photographer who specialises in modern, urban scenes and the architecture of London and Brighton, as well as much further afield. She seeks to capture the spirit of a town or city and often creates a striking collage to reflect its many layers. Nicole's work involves various processes: the careful building up of photographic layers, computer design, illustration and collage, and the merging of monochrome with colour for a vintage feel. Using these methods Nicole has created a truly original style. Nicole has had successful exhibitions in the South of France before moving back to Brighton in 2009. Since then her work has been shown and sold at the Grange Gallery, the Old Market, Koba, the Open House, ArtEscape Gallery, Simply the Best and Frameworks Gallery. Nicole is available for commissions and offers a range of photographic services. All work on this website is available to buy.
