On 24th July 1944, David attended my father's 6th birthday. That day, according to him, they played in the pig pen on our family farm. Inevitably, this rendered them both filthy, and David in fear of a scolding. To this day, he is grateful to my grandmother, who filled a tin bath in the kitchen with hot water, washed him, cleaned his clothes and shoes, and sent him home free from dirt. My family left our farm and moved away from Wiltshire in 1978. I was 10-years old. In 2011, my partner and I decided to buy a small dilapidated cottage in the same village. Whilst working on the renovation, David was one of various inquisitive visitors who’d appear at the doorway, a welcome distraction from sandblasting, digging floors or pulling down walls. I welcomed his presence immensely, and we developed a friendship. He has lent tools, cut hedges, and sowed a lawn. His friendship has been one of the cornerstones of feeling welcomed home after so many years away - albeit as a second-homeowner. We often talked about me photographing him, his only request that I represent him honestly, as a working countryman in his eighties. A few months ago, covered in bits of grass, his huge hands still rough from the day's graft, he sat quietly in front of me while I shot around 30 frames. I regard this as one of my most important ‘commissions’ to date, and I am immensely proud of the photograph of my friend.

I am a photographer based in central London. I have been shooting editorially and commercially for 25 years, My work has largely been to create imagery for luxury brands and publications . Clients include Omega, Patek Philliepe,Dunhill, Selfridges and Net-A-Porter and magazines such as British Vogue, Wallpaper* Esquire and GQ. I have worked on my own personal projects through out that time and have gained recognition for my projects including 'Mixed' which is a project about the lives and experiences of people who have grown up in a family that perhaps surprises others. The images present different family members, a parent, a child, a sibling or a grandparent all of whom are related. My aim was to show how society is evolving and changing, and how as it does we are all encouraged to think differently. Whilst the differences are seen on the surface through skin colour, I believe the real changes are more than skin deep and that in effect we are witnessing a coming together not only of cultures, but class, religion and genealogy. I am in a mixed relationship and together with my partner we have three children who I believe represent this aspect of a changing society. The work was exhibited 20 September 2017 – 25 May 2018, at the Migration Museum, London. No Turning Back: Seven Migration Moments that Changed Britain. http://www.migrationmuseum.org/exhibition/noturningback/ In 2012 I shot 'Kiss' which was Exhibited as part of 'Kus. Von Rodin Bis Bob Dylan' at The Bröhan Museum, Berlin from June 15th - October 3rd 2017, curated by Dr Anna Grosskopt. The Exhibition included work by Auguste Rodin, Edvard Munch, Alex Poulson and Bob Dylan. The Brohan Museum is an art and design museum devoted to art of the modern period it houses a unique collection of art nouveau and art deco. https://www.broehan-museum.de/en/exhibition/kiss-from-rodin-to-bob-dylan/ The work was also covered in the guardian magazine https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/gallery/2012/feb/10/kiss-andy-barter and The Times.
