I explore intimate horror, nightmare within a domestic setting, night terrors, psychology. Intense religious experience and its expression through body language. Having grown up in Poland, a place entirely immersed in Christianity, has given me, as a Jewish person, sense of dichotomy and fascination with Christian iconography and Eastern European folklore. I have also been drawn to the aesthetics of deathbed photography. I experiment and seek to push the photographic medium beyond its boundaries. 'Bliss' is a series of images I developed as part of my degree project. I shot it on black and white, extremely low film sensitivity negatives. I wanted to capture the moment of spiritual and sensual transition. I felt the longtime of exposure and the model's physical discomfort through the process would bring me closer to it and enhance my project conceptually. I developed the negatives on fibre based photographic paper. The prints are toned, and processed to give their surface appearance of cracked-up oil paintings. They are sealed underneath oil-based varnish. Even though I am able to produce more prints from the same negative exposure, the method makes each individual print unique and non-replicable.
