This is a nonobjective abstract painting in encaustic on wood panels, mounted together to create a 20” square painting. This piece employs gold leaf and mica pigments to create a shimmering effect in the textured encaustic paint. The areas where there is no paint is exposed raw wood. Encaustic paint is made from a combination of beeswax, pigment, and damar, and is worked by heating and melting the materials. Encaustic paintings are very durable (examples remain from ancient Egypt) but they are susceptible to high temperatures, so they should not be hung in a place which may get excessively hot, such as near a radiator or in direct sunlight.

Artist Statement: I create bold, abstract, geometric paintings in encaustic and painted collage. In my work, I use the logic and formality of geometry as a framework to stir associations, ideas, and memories from the realms of the physical and non-physical. My process is intuitive, combining chance with careful decision-making to create balance and harmony with color and form. The play of light and movement are recurring themes. The resulting images are a visual language designed to spark the imagination and be freely interpreted by the viewer.
