About The Artwork

Jackson Park is a wonderful well loved Nature trail in the middle of my city Peterborough. I especially enjoy the Winter vistas with that special softly glowing sunlight as it begins to peak over the treetops in the morning. The snow cover emphasizes the bare trees giving the landscape an etched quality. The sky seems immense and dramatic against the minimal landscape vista. I work in Beeswax Encaustic. I love the textures, layers, luminosity of this beautiful medium. The photo image transfers add to the dynamic of the painting: as you enjoy it, it shifts between the reality of the painted surface and the reality of a photo image. As the daylight changes, so does the painting - in the evening light it glows softly. I use high quality beeswax encaustic medium and paints from R & R Handmade Paints (rfpaints.com) since they produce paintings which are colour-fast and archivally durable. This work is on back-framed wood panel and can be hung as such, however some collectors prefer going ahead and getting an outer frame as well - it's your preference after all. Hanging hardware is provided.

I graduated from Concordia University, Montreal with a BFA and post graduate Art Education Diploma. After experiencing Northern Canada while teaching, I continued my education and graduated from Trent University, Peterborough ON, completing an MA in Anthropology specializing in Art History and Indigenous Cultures. My medium is beeswax encaustic which I also teach in private studio workshops and through classes at the Haliburton School of the Arts. I am a recognized instructor with R & F Paints, Kingston, New York. My painting style interweaves photo images, mixed media, plaster forms to create a visual and tactile feast for the senses. The medium allows beautifully luminous layers of rich colours and textures like no other medium I've used. It is also extremely archival and permanent. I have enjoyed numerous solo shows in the Peterborough area including a solo show at the Art Gallery of Peterborough. I also have shown in the US and across Canada. My work was juried into a prestigious show at the Sagamihara Citizen Gallery. I am represented by The Art Gallery on the Lake, Buckhorn, ON; The Elaine Fleck Gallery, Toronto ON, The Ethel Curry Gallery, Haliburton, ON; Meta4 Gallery, Port Perry, ON; Soho Myriad Gallery, Atlanta, Ga.
