About The Artwork
This painting went more quickly than others and involved more experimentation. It started as a horizontal painting of a foggy winter river scene and it was not going well. After rotating it vertically, it got more exciting to work with. I went with the wispy brush strokes up top that were water reflections and they looked like trees in the fog. I think it abstractly shows the feel of walking on a wet winter day. I added a piney type of cedar on the right as well as a kind of alcove under it that I saw on another walk. It has a hanging wire and my name painted on the back of the canvas with the year. The edges are painted neutral gray. It is varnished with Golden MSA varnish in gloss then satin.

I live in Austin, TX. I was raised in Michigan and have also lived in Boston. I started painting watercolors as a teenager and gravitated back toward painting after college. I took classes in painting, portrait painting, and printmaking. I like painting landscape scenes and my recent larger paintings are inspired by walks on trails, especially near water. Paintings go semi-realistic or more abstract based on feel and reacting to what's there. I also painted murals for 10 years.
