About The Artwork

This little gem is painted in lovely rich jewel tones and features a bunch of colorful wild meadow flowers in a reused Lyle's Golden Syrup tin. The tin is resting on a white clothed table, and the wall in the background is a lovely, textured blue in shades of indigo and navy. Sweet williams and reeds and all manner of leaves crowd into the tin in shades of red, scarlet, cranberry, fuschia, pink, orange, emerald, mint, sage and hunter green. It was inspired by a summer dash through Hyde Park in London earlier this year, I hopped off of the Heathrow Express and ran to the Serpentine gallery to meet my mum for a wander through the Grayson Perry show (my favourite!) and while I was running, all around me in the long, waving grasses, life carried on. Flowers bloomed and crickets chirped and little creatures scurried about, totally oblivious of my hurried steps. This little painting is on 8x10 cradled board, it has been sealed with a layer of glossy acrylic varnish to protect from light damage. It is ready to frame or may be hung as is.

Lara Meintjes, also known as Agnes, is a South African artist, happily living in Oakland, California. She is particularly interested in arrangements of color, and the effects of each color's presence on the others within a composition. She also really likes flowers and awkward ceramic objects. Lara is fascinated by the dividing line between fact and fantasy, and the lingering imprint of childhood on our adult lives. She likes to play in the negative space between objects.
