About The Artwork
Every 7 years Athens had to send 7 young man and maidens to Crete to feed the Minotaur, half a man and half a bull. In one such consignment was also Theseus, the son of king Aegeus. Minotaur lived in a labyrinth and Ariadne, the daughter of king Minos, who felt in love with Theseus, gave him a sword and a ball of wool. He uncoiled it on his way into labyrinth, killed Minotaur and followed the tread to find his way out. I feel like we are alike in a labyrinth of information and disinformation, which are becoming as dangerous for the society as a Minotaur, but there is no Ariadne, to help us find the way out. Climate changes, social inequality, financial instability, flee of the right and the media seeking only for profit, are just a few parts of the contemporary Minotaur, threatening to eat us all alive. I am trying to harmonize energy and forces in this composition. Paper Is painted both sides and the same actors appear in both worlds. It is an instrument of harmony, and it works only if someone has it in her hands and turns it around, from one side to another. I use machines to create art, wondering if machines will one day understand my art. Computers, mobile phones and robots are strongly getting into our minds. We are more and more behaving like machines, while Intelligent devices are more and more behaving like humans. Once there might be no difference between the machine and the human at all. I examine different forms our technology based society takes, and the motives that lie behind it. I use the copy-paste culture, post-production and modularity as the common denominators of the digitized worlds. Altering them is a way of questioning the attitudes, fears, unwritten rules, opportunities and dangers which have formed that environment and our behavior within it. Aesthetics and ontology of my work are strongly related to my working process. I take icons, symbols and other entities from the mediated reality and combine them in algorhytmic ways. I strive to convey that sense of algorhytmic simplicity by capturing its algorhytmic language.
