About The Artwork
"What Is Our Faith? II" is a second piece of the series. First one , gold and brown, is a piece in oil on canvas, these one is oil+schlagmetal on wood. First one was created in 2008 as a personal search of a meaning of faith. Raised in catholic Poland and facing divorce, I was trying to dissociate real faith and spirituality from religions and churches. Formal structure of painting is based on most worshiped in Poland, hodegedria style, depiction of Holy Mary and Christ called "Holy Mother of Czestochowa", "Black Madonna" or "Queen of Poland". Painting has several, excheangeble "dresses" - jeweled, gold and silver plated metal covers revealing only faces and hands of Mary and Christ. My intention was to create only a "dress", so everyone can fill the place for Mary and Christ with their own content of faith. Work has exact dimensions and delineation of the original painting from XV century. First version was "discovered" and bought by one of the collectors 7 years later, in 2015, and since than two other colour versions and their copies where commissioned.

Most of the highly celebrated art is about discovering new or commenting on current pressing matters, but my art is about simple everyday willingness to live. I paint because this gives me purpose and joy – it’s like humming nice song for a hundredth time, even thou there were many covers before; preparing favorite drink for a friend and myself, to enjoy it again in a new glass perhaps; dressing up for no occasion, just to look and feel good; caressing a lover… I wish it was the same for recipients of my art – everyday pleasure in experiencing it. Like a book that you red many times, yet you still reach for it; dish that you always order in that place that is there forever... Repeatable, often classic topics; favorite color palette; small and big things that makes us want to live, even thou world can be such an ugly place. I want my art to make it better - even for a moment, even in a tiny way. I want it to remind myself and others that it's worth to try everyday...
