This painting was done after my three Quilt landscape series. I wanted to make another quilted, geometric work that suggested urban architecture. I used a wedge thick with paint to "carve" into the colors on the first layer and that resulted in all kinds of different patterns that i could then add paint to and enhance. I would like the viewer to feel the dizzying effect of the city's activity. I chose darker colors so as to suggest an evening view of the city above the building shapes. I want the viewer to see different detail in it as he/she looks closely. I wanted to suggest the endless variety of city life.
