Unbound Painting

This painting takes the viewer into the blue beyond. The subtle range of carefully blended blues accented by several minor drops of orange creates an overall blue glow. Worked into the painted are a series of numbers, so close in tones to the overall hue as to be nearly hidden, they present a delightful surprise when discovered. The numbers represent contemporary impulse to measure everything: numbers of tasks accomplished, numbers of steps taken, numbers of teaspoons in recipes and digital expressions of words etc. Because they are nearly invisible and because the blue is open, the painting represents at least a temporary escape from the constriction of numbers and one can choose to become, for awhile, unbound.
