The work imagines a still life with cherries; an imposing lime green traces an outline, a dappled surface of chromatic dots interrupts the plane. The colour pink derives from two elements, first from the red of the cherries, and secondly from a photograph of a hyena carrying a flamingo in its jaws, that is the remnants of the green line that occurs over the cherries. As in the title, Tratteggio refers to a modern theory of conservation based on phenomenology and Gestalt philosophy. In this theory the object of art is sovereign and independent from reality, it is complete. In Gestalt the nature of an artefact is described not only by the state in which it was released from the artist’s workshop but also by its later life. In Florence, a variant of trattteggio 'chromatic' was developed by Ornella Casazza and Umberto Baldini. Within this restoration method the lines may not be vertical but are directed according to the image composition. Chromatic selection means finding characteristic features (the elementary colors) of the desired hue and recomposing it by creating the impression of a color that reintegrates the image, forming a system of filters that give the effect of unified colour.
