From my series, "Here and When" "Thoughtful Decisions" is a vivid collection of bold strokes and decisive scratches surrounding, near breaching, a playful backdrop of creamy whites. The whites are, for me, like serene sand I can build a dreamy castle or sink my toes and form into. I can sink into for warmth and connection to our land, our origin, our collective Soul. The impending and dynamic red horizon can be the threat of "what" takes the magic away in your life. Age? ..,.Time?.... Boredom?.... Insignificant Sh#t we are supposed to make significant? The square is placement. Large and bright. Reminding me to find my place. It is imperative in life we make Thoughtful Decisions....or, we run risk an invasion of the unnecessary. Sometimes small, too often, altering us to debilitating.

Kathryn Fortson has exhibited in group and solo shows throughout the Southeastern U.S. Her paintings and prints are held in private, corporate, and public collections world wide. "For me, abstract painting begins by connecting to a state of being or maybe connecting to an emotion. Sometimes being an object or element in nature. To be a shell … or to be a blade of grass in the wind. And, if not a tangible thing, I often connect to states of being. Can emotion form motion? Would it form line, depth shadows, movement ….how might laughter play with colors and light? When I am painting, I don't really think about what brush to pick up or color to mix. It is as though my connected state and my painting skills have their own dance. It is a little bit meditative, a little bit of disassociation and a lot of surrendering. I hope my work can evoke curiosity and perhaps encourage a different outlook or perspective. Maybe nudge the viewer to bypass one's typical interpretations and open to the intangible energy an art piece may offer. Kathryn Fortson's studio is in Alpharetta, Georgia USA. She accepts commissions.
