About The Artwork

This huge 5 feet by 5 feet magnificent oil painting in ocres tones is painted in clair obscur and symbolizes hope. The tortoise (Astrochelys yniphora) is a critically endangered species of tortoise severely threatened by poaching for the illegal pet trade in Madagascar. The Moon appears the size of a tortoise egg. I see the tortoise as a symbol of Earth and wisdom, and the Moon as a symbol of imagination. The fragile egg (the Moon) symbolizes the potential continuity of those two species: tortoise and human, both at risk!
