About The Artwork

This work was painted under the impression of the well-known mountain lake Issyk-Kul in Kyrgyzstan, popularly called the "Lake of Tears". There is no lake itself in the picture, but the stunning red mountains, that's what inspired for creation of this artwork. There are many legends associated with the lake. One of them is telling about the destruction of a beautiful city that stood high in the mountains until a terrible earthquake razed it to the ground. Aksakals believe that the character of those places reflects the sorrow of the mourners. Thoughtful, fascinating, and calm Nature can suddenly become a roaring, raging force. Using bright colors and bold brushstrokes I tried to convey the combination of two different formations of nature: wind and rock. The expressionist style of the painting emphasizes a rebellious and mysterious spirit of the place that is full of legends and myths.

I was born in the wonderful city of Saint Petersburg, right in the historical part of it. My first conscious drawings related to the age of five. I remember my mom surprisingly exclaiming, "Did you draw this?" She loved violin and wanted me to become a musician. After three years of playing violin, I made my choice in favor of visual arts. This was followed by getting an education at the children’s art school, art college, and University. After graduation, I spent seventeen years working at schools, teaching children art history, movements, and techniques. Since I was passionate about teaching art I rarely had the opportunity to create myself. My life completely changed during the Spring Lockdown 2020, when like the vast majority of people, I was locked up at home. I finally was able to bring to life what I had always dreamed of. Painting became vitally necessary for me. I draw inspiration from the beautiful organic color palettes found in nature, as well as from various subjects and compositions encountered in everyday life. Based on the achievements of the world-known masters of the past and the present I, however, seek my own style and ways of expression in contemporary art, experimenting with different media and techniques. __________ My works of art are in the private collections of the USA, Australia, and Europe.
