About The Artwork

Even if you build a house on a mountain, a mountain is a mountain. Even if a mountain has a house, it is a mountain. Even if it contains water, it is a mountain. Even if a mountain blooms, it is a mountain. We built a house on the mountain and lived in bloom even in the face of war. I feel a lot as I watch the refugees who have lived their lives silently for a long time. I also study the vitality of the mountain that gave up and embraced me. I started working on the painting of a house on a mountain as I felt that I and the refugees, who had not settled down, looked alike. Complex pixels densely packed with different colors represent me, modern society, and the refugees. The bottom part is the paint that is taken off or scratched to reveal the canvas. They paint the mountains with houses and then they're taken off again.

Mountains are mountains. I'm Park Han-ji, an artist who tells the story of a house built on a mountain. During the Korean War, many refugees gathered in Busan and built houses up to the top of the mountain. Even in the end of the desire of the people of war, the mountains made houses and flowers bloom. The mountain that gives everything is like a mother's arms. But aren't we modern refugees now searching for better homes and better lands? What is the path to co-prosperity?We're trying to find the answer to that in the nature of the mountain. Modern people, including myself, who live without settling down anywhere, seem anxious. It's no different from refugees who find a place to live in a war. Even if the war is over, my escape path will not end. I long for a settled life as I search for a way. I want to learn a settled life from the attitude of the mountain that always stands there. Modern society is like a house built on a mountain where refugees search for it because it is unstable and has not settled anywhere. It contains me who wants to change to planes and cars with dynamic movements. I want to empty the essence of the mountain range as a white canvas itself and share a lot of thoughts while working. It also borrows the image of a rock that cannot build a house where the values of nature and the world can rest for a while through the series of houses that cannot be built on rocks.
