About The Artwork
Countess of Castiglione (Virginia Oldoini), 1837-1899, was an Italian aristocrat who achieved notoriety as a mistress of Emperor Napoleon III of France. She also spent a considerable amount of time having herself photographed in different costumes often theatrical in which she apparently re-created the signature moments of her life. The whereabouts of this painting is unknown at this time.
