About The Artwork
Sultan Mosque in Arab Street Singapore. Sultan Mosque sits in the heart of Kampong Glam District with its massive gold domes and huge prayer hall. The Sultan Mosque is one of Singapore's most impressive religious buildings. The Mosque was built in 1824 for Sultan Hussain Shah, the first Sultan of Singapore and his followers with a grant from The British East India Company. I have created this painting as part of my Singapore Landmarks Collection. I use acrylics and gold leaf on the turrets of the mosque and I used words in my paintings of landmarks. I love designing a painting in this way. I instintively choose this soft green as a background and someone later told me its significant in the muslim faith as a colour that represents a devotion to the Qu'ran which staying connected to the earth. I thought that was lovely
