Submerged Painting

I had just finished painting Each With Its Own Song and thought of doing another painting on a grid in which each section has its own personality. As I worked on this one with a green, orange, cream, siena and white palette, I realized it was not going in the direction that I had hoped. I was seized with a desire to submerge it with colors I liked better -- blues and violets. Suddenly a figure appeared on the left and I went with it letting it emerge and creating the scene around it, but still keeping little bits and pieces of the original work. Then I went back and recaptured some of the verticals and horizontals creating a partially submerged grid. It was a very satisfying experience and I was happy with the result.
