About The Artwork

Stolen Time 71 is a painting from Richard Heys's 2020-2023 series of work - Stolen Time. Richard has been creating pieces for this series since the beginning of the pandemic. Stolen Time has a double meaning - extra time stolen for oneself (in Richard's case having time during the pandemic to focus solely on painting, when everything stopped) and stolen time in the sense of lost opportunities. A number of the pieces made in 2020 have a spring-like quality, inspired by the walks Richard took to and from his home to his studio each day where he revelled in the quiet and the unfolding spring. This painting was exhibited at Linley of London in the Spring Show 2023, which opened at the same time as the Chelsea Flower Show. The painting is framed in a white frame & is ready to hang. The framed size is 63.5 x 53.5 cm

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

In my practice I work primarily as an abstract artist, exploring pure colour and form, the substance of paint and ground, and the tensions between the physical processes of making and the ‘life’ in the piece. I strive to create paintings with presence, paintings which have atmosphere and countenance. For the last few years I have been working in a beautiful light filled studio in Sussex, England exploring tools and processes which disguise the hand. I have found a greater freedom through this limitation and its challenges. I explore light and darkness and pure colour journeys, working with transparency and glazing to create vibrant surfaces. My paintings were selected for the Royal Watercolour Society's Open in 2024 and for the ING Discerning Eye exhibition at the Mall Galleries, London in 2015, 2016 & 2021. In 2017 my work was selected for the prestigious Creekside Open & the National Open Art Competition.
