About The Artwork

The process of this extra large artwork began with a soft horizon which was then broken with highly expressive and gestural strokes. However, this made the work almost aggressive. After leaving the work alone for a while, the artist came back to it, seeing that the work, although stunning, had an energy of striving in it and this is the opposite of what Julia is hoping to achieve. Art carries energy and there are works which are undoubtedly clever or stylish but which don't import any stillness. Julia therefore worked out the heavy strokes into an impressionistic water or sky scene. The various clouds of colour were the striking elements, now blended carefully to be subtle and understated. The painting looks very different in different lights - these pictures were taken in full day light. At night, it takes on a drawn together pale blue. The work aims at simplicity in a spiritual and emotional sense; the artist wants it to represent freedom from the need to impress.

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

My art is primarily organic abstraction, often portraying surreal and softened landscapes. A dream or nebulous quality marks both transitions and compositions. This is derived from a mode of life, which is rooted in inner stillness. I live in South West France, surrounded by tranquil forests. That quietness of being is what I strive for in my studio. I paint without distraction, so that I can fully connect with what I am creating. The more I can remove myself from the process, the better the work. I only paint in oils as they give such wonderful luminosity and I prefer large scale pieces for freedom of mind.
