Staring Through...... Painting

This piece is inspired by my literature hero Lawrence Durrell. His prose and poetry guided me through my youth and spoke of far off countries and lit my imagination for travel and literature. This piece is self explanatory as he described the sensations of diving then returning to the surface of the Ionian Sea. In homage to him and the beautiful lands he described I made this painting and in choosing the powerful blue colour it resonates in the language he used to describe the sea and the sky of Greece. With hand-cut letters placed on the canvas it sits there partly obscured yet given sunlight it shows his masterful prose in full. This piece of artwork is a precious memory of my past loves and also it triggers deep emotions of the fires lit by this author of far off lands and the beauty they hold and he described.
