About The Artwork
In the last few months my paintings have changed somewhat reflecting a shift in my perspective of life. This is a direct result of engaging in a number of new community activities that bring the diversity of our living environments to my attention. Wide contrasts between social communities that display definitive geographical boundaries. In my new paintings I explore such contrasts with colour, mark making and compositional elements. Intensity and opacity of colour is contrasted with different hues whilst spasmodic ribbons and patches of colour weave and run across the surface creating a busy composition that moves forward and back. A visual journey that offers the viewer pathways to the imagination.

I love to experiment in my process of painting, exploring opposites like the spontaneous mark alongside the deliberate, dark colours contrasted with fluorescent pigments, masses of colour juxtaposed with fine ribbons or scribbles of paint. Compositions that offer no clear connection to reality or meaning, rather present explorations of painting compositions that may stimulate memories and create pathways to the imagination.
