I was drinking coffee with friends in the cafeteria of the Jerwood gallery in Hastings one winter afternoon. Others were looking at the sun dipping over the sea (it was a beautiful day), but my attention was drawn by the patterns it threw onto the wall. I took a photograph, and then got busy back in my studio.
