About The Artwork
This small piece was inspired by an exhibit I saw of Louise Nevelson's Shadow Boxes. I find myself drawn to the interplay of positive and negative shapes. What is background? What is foreground? How do the two create a harmonious whole? To me it feels like a dance, like something whimsical and playful in spite of all the black. The raised collage fabric divides the space and gives the painting a three dimensional quality.
