Sally's Roses Painting

I was out at an event where I spied a lovely group of roses. Took a number of photos and selected a simple composition. These are about the light and the flower. The roses were painted in a monochrome with dark purple and white. The pink and green are achieved with many, many layers of transparent oil paint. This exploits the inherent beauty of the paint itself while creating some glowing flowers. Though the background looks black and dark, it is actually a number of layers of the same very dark plum purple creating a rich contrast to the bright flowers. And yes, the bouquet was for Sally. This is painted on an artist's panel and is thin, allowing framing in even a photo style frame if desired. The current frame is a subtle gold that contrasts with the dark background, and ready to hang.
