PROCEDURE: First of all I prepare the wood with special materials so I can carefully sketch the figure on it. After that I start painting the basic colors and later on I come back many times with my various brush sizes to end up to the concrete details of the Holy faces. This icon is made according to the traditional old art of byzantine iconography where the image is painted on wood or canvas, with egg tempera (egg yolk, vinegar, color in dust) and gold metal leaves. After painted , it is varnished so it is preserved through time. My aim is to draw friendly and merciful holy faces so that their gentleness inspires somebody to pray and hope.
