This is a large painting, made on four separate Claybord wood panels. Museum Series Claybord is made from premium warp-resistant 1/8" profile FSC-certified Hardbord™ that is sealed and protected with Archiva-Seal™ and coated with an acid-free kaolin clay ground. The ultra-smooth, absorbent clay surface allows for unlimited techniques. "Ravel" is part of the Hundred Points on a Line Series. Every piece begins with a simple blueprint: one hundred points on a line. Then, following Paul Klee’s formulation of, “taking a line for a walk, aimlessly for the sake of the walk,” the record of an action of motion comes into being. Lines, both seen and unseen, are found everywhere in nature, including in the wind, in the sounds of music, in the light of the sky, and in the waves of water. It is in their shaping and shading, their tonal gradations, thinness or thickness, that Rousseau’s work portrays both a visual rendition of energetic processes of perception.
