About The Artwork

This oil painting is a "triptych" called Prejudice Okay, my thoughts on prejudice... well frankly, it sucks. Believe it or not, Mr. blond haired, blue eyed white guy (me) has experienced it. It crosses all racial boundaries. In any camp, it is harmful, hurtful and simply wrong. I began this piece over 30 years ago. I've utilized numerous metaphors to demonstrate the isolation that prejudice incurs while omitting racial and other stereotypes. On the right cell of this triptych, a "being" has been isolated from the group because it is "different" than the others (notice three bands on the head instead of two). In the three facial bands of this "being", darkness is present. This signifies the emptiness and despair the being is feeling. These bands have also been prepared to appear as if they are "wounds", or that it has been "burnt". The aluminum foil spread across the center of the piece demonstrates a "cold barrier" between the foreground of the group, and background where the isolated being has been segregated. Aluminum foil is is thin and easy to tear through, but no effort has been made to attempt this ...by either party. In addition, have you ever bit down hard on a piece of aluminum foil between your teeth? it's not a pleasant experience I assure you. Try it if you wish, although I don't recommend it. It will be a bitter, hurtful and an unpleasant experience (especially if you have fillings in your molars!). By the way, it is NOT really aluminum foil, but I think I pulled it off with the oils... eh? In the foreground (left side) the group of three whisper amongst themselves about the "being" outside of their group. Please notice that the heads of these "beings" are empty and hollow (I hope this metaphor doesn't need explaining!). Furthermore, the "being" on the right of the group of three on the left has its head in the air. Pompous, self righteous, self assured and completely corrupt. Do you notice that this third "being" in the group of three has a secondary light reflected across its right side coming from the isolated being? Could it be that this self righteous "being" has been convicted of the light of truth and is having to rationalize its unsavory beliefs? The dark sky indicates a coming storm, which will be the result of any persistent prejudice. The parched earth represents that nothing fertile comes of this hateful endeavor. One last thing... prejudice begets prejudice. If someone hates you, the human tendency is to hate that person. Therefore, the somewhat infinite plane on which this piece exists (somewhat obscured and further mystified by the foil barrier) illustrates this phenomenon. The finished piece measures 10' 4" long X 5' tall, which will lend strength and power to the composition. There's more in there that I invite you to examine and discover for yourself. Let me know what you find!

I feel that my "Neo-Constructivist" sculptures are more than likely more "me" and represent my personal style the most. Additionally, I've been working on a concept I call "Cognizantism". Most of my paintings follow this "movement". It'd be great to start a new art movement... since we ARE the artists of the beginning of the 21st Century. Also, I have a geometric style which is highly "architectonic" I refer to as "Hyper-Suprematism" (*not to be confused with "Racial Supremacist"... Please note important difference in spelling!). Will you join me in this endeavor of shaping the 21st Century? I am currently seeking representation for North America, Europe and Asia. My cousin did a little film where she interviewed me at my home. You can get a better "picture" of who I am, and what I do by viewing the video at http://seedanado.wordpress.com/2010/04/09/dana-visits-craig-o/ Have fun and stay in touch. I'd love to be your friend here on Saatchi Online, and check out your work as well... so please "friend" so I can visit your page! All the best, Craigo (aka - Craig Sibley)
