About The Artwork
Pomegranate I collected from beneath a tree while on a walk in the Alentejo countryside of Portugal. Painting from life, I considered the myth of Perspephone and Demeter. Upon finishing, I savored the sweetness of her seeds. Part of a series of 'Daily Delights'--noticing nature and taking time to appreciate the beauty in [what might be considered] the banal, delighting in the particular personality of each vegetable, flower, etc as a spot of brightness during uncertain times (begun during lockdown).
